History

Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Arizona is the home of the Arizona State Sun Devils men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s gymnastics, and men’s wrestling teams. The 10,754 seat arena opened in 1974 and replaced Sun Devil Gym as the home of the men’s basketball team.

Since opening, Wells Fargo Arena has undergone several minor renovations. Most recently, the arena’s capacity was decreased from 13,947 to 10,754 in 2010 when the last five rows were cut off to create a more intimate atmosphere.

Wells Fargo Arena has been the site of several notable events over the years. The arena hosted the 1990 Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Tournament and was the location of first and second round games in the 2015 and 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournaments.
