History

The 19,000-seat Marriott Center in Provo Utah has been the home of the BYU Cougars men’s and women’s basketball teams. The facility is the largest in the West Coast Conference and is located approximately 4,650 ft above sea level.

During the past decade, the Marriott Center has undergone a few renovations. In 2012, the lower bench seating on the north side was replaced with chairback seating, a new sound system was installed, and the men’s and women’s basketball team locker rooms were renovated. A couple of years later, in 2015, the rest of the lower level seats were replaced, and new video boards were installed.

Over the years, the Marriott Center has been the site of several notable events. The arena hosted the West Regionals of the 1972, 1977, 1979, and 1982 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. It also was the site of the 1988 Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament. Additionally, the Marriott Center set the record for attendance at a men’s volleyball game when 14,156 came out to see BYU defeat Long Beach State on February 19, 1999.
