Rivalries & Top Games to Attend
Battle of Alberta
Rival Team: Edmonton Oilers
It doesn’t get any better than the Battle of Alberta. There is a strong rivalry between the two cities and it extends to the ice as well. The Flames and Oilers bitter rivalry dates back to 1980 when the Flames relocated to Calgary from Atlanta and has been going strong ever since. The rivalry was at its peak in the 1980s when the two teams were regular contenders for the Cup. Even though both teams have struggled recently, you’ll still find an incredible atmosphere at a Flames-Oilers game.
Flames vs Canucks
Rival Team: Vancouver Canucks
The Flames and Canucks have played in the same division since the 1980-81 season, which has led to the development of a fierce rivalry. Calgary and Vancouver are the two largest cities in Western Canada, and as a result, the cities themselves look for any bragging rights they can get over the other. On the ice, the Flames and Canucks have met in the Stanley Cup Playoffs seven times with the Flames winning the most recent meeting in 2015 four games to two. If you want to see an incredible game at the Saddledome, then there are few better than a Flames-Canucks game.
