The Avalanche and Red Wings had the fiercest rivalry in the NHL during the 1990s and early 2000s. These two teams absolutely despised each other, and it showed. During the 1996-97 season, the two engaged in one of the bloodiest brawls in NHL history. A year later the two engaged in another brawl where they combined for 46 penalties and 228 penalty minutes. The rivalry between these two isn’t anywhere as intense as it used to be but an Avalanche-Red Wings game is still something worth experiencing.
The Avalanche-Wild rivalry is a budding rivalry in the Central Division. In 2014, these two teams met in the First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs where the Wild upset the top-seeded Avalanche in seven games. A couple of years later the Wild narrowly beat out the Avs for the last spot in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. There is always a lot at stake when these two get together so don’t miss your chance to see the Avs take on the Wild.

The Avs haven’t been great on the ice lately, but the diehards that have been supporting the team since they moved here from Quebec still come out to the games in high numbers. You won’t have any trouble picking up a conversation with your fellow fans at the games. You’ll also encounter plenty of opposing teams fans at the game, due to there being a lot of transplants in the Denver area, creating a fun atmosphere.
If you’re looking to grab something to drink at the game, then you won’t have any trouble as Colorado is home to tons of craft brewers, many of which you can find inside the Pepsi Center. Grab a Dale’s Pale Ale or an Odell and start cheering on the Avs hard during your trip to the Pepsi Center. Don’t worry if you’re more a Coors guys as they have a strong presence in the arena as well.
The location of the Pepsi Center is also among the best in the league meaning you’ll find plenty of great places to eat and drink before and after the game. The 16th Street Mall and Larimer Square are only a quick shuttle ride away, so you’ll be able to make a day out of it during your trip to Denver.
An Avalanche game presents an excellent opportunity for those of you in the Denver area to see a live hockey game, and tickets can be found at affordable prices making it a good time for all.
One of the unique features of the Pepsi Center is the fact that there are three restaurants located inside of the stadium. The Shock Top Lodge, Land Rover Denver Club, and Peak Pub House all offer excellent cuisine, so don’t be afraid to try anyone of them.
In the Pepsi Center’s atrium, you’ll find an interesting basketball and hockey sculpture. Make sure to take a photo of this unique sculpture during your visit to Denver as a keepsake.
The Pepsi Center is home to numerous banners honoring the all-time great Avalanche and Nuggets players and teams. You can see the Avs two Stanley Cup championship banners and retired numbers belonging to all-time greats like Sakic and Forsberg, so make sure to check them out.
If you’re getting to town a couple of days before the game, take a tour of the Pepsi Center. The tour is a great experience and allows you to see behind the scenes at the arena, and even lets you see the locker rooms.
One of the best aspects of attending a game at the Pepsi Center is the fans’ ability to get up close to the glass before the game. Take the opportunity to get on the glass and snap a pic to remember your trip to Denver.
Avs mascot Bernie made his debut in 2009 and has been entertaining crowds at the Pepsi Center ever since. Bernie keeps everyone entertained throughout the game, so keep your eyes peeled for this lovable dog.
The Ice Girls keep everyone engaged during the stops in the action with a variety of promotions and giveaways. Get loud when you see the Ice Girls for your chance to win some Avalanche swag.
