Rivalries & Top Games to Attend

Broncos vs Chiefs

Rival Team: Kansas City Chiefs

The Broncos and Chiefs have been fierce rivals since the founding of the American Football League in 1960. The Chiefs owned the series in the very beginning winning 19 of the 20 meetings during the 1960s. However, the Broncos have come back strong since taking a 53-50 all-time lead. In the playoffs, the teams have only met once with the Broncos upsetting the top seed Chiefs 14-10 in the 1998 NFL playoffs en route to the Super Bowl.

Broncos vs Raiders

Rival Team: Oakland Raiders

The Broncos-Raiders rivalry also dates back to the 1960 and the founding of the AFL. The Raiders hold the all-time series lead 60-49-2. However, the playoff series is tied at one game apiece. In recent years the Broncos have gotten the better of the Raiders on most occasions as they have won the last 7 and 14 of the last 20.

Broncos vs Chargers

Rival Team: San Diego Chargers

Similar to all the rivalries in the AFC West the Broncos-Chargers rivalry began in 1960 with the creation of the AFL. The two teams have played in the same division ever since and have developed a strong rivalry as a result. The Broncos own the lead in the all-time series 61-49-1 and have won the only playoff meeting between these two rivals when the beat the Chargers 24-17 in the 2014 NFL playoffs.

Broncos Tailgate Guide

Atmosphere

When arriving at a tailgate at Mile High, you’ll be met with the delicious aromas of grilled meats. Here you’ll find a plethora of sausages, pork, and wings that will make any tailgate lover’s mouth water. One thing’s for sure though when you leave a Broncos tailgate; you won’t go away hungry. Not only is the food here delicious, but it is also plentiful as most people are more than happy to share as long as you bring something to the tailgate.

Tailgates at Broncos games also feature a variety of booths offering freebies. These booths can usually be found on the western side of the stadium, so make sure to set up shop on the western side if you want to get some great Denver Broncos goodies.

A unique aspect of tailgating at a Broncos game is that Mile High is one of, the more walkable NFL Stadiums in the country. While you are still a bit of ways away from all the great bars in downtown Denver, the light rail drops fans off right by the stadium. On the walk to the stadium fans will encounter many t-shirt and food vendors, which help enrich the great Broncos tailgate atmosphere. You’re sure to have a great time at a Broncos tailgate as you’ll find plenty of food, drinks, and fun here at Mile High.

Traditions

Counties Gateway Plaza

The Broncos are very appreciative of the support from the fans and the people of Denver over the years, so as a tribute to those that have supported this team the Broncos built the Counties Gateway Plaza. The plaza features hackberry shade trees and monuments dedicated to the six counties located in the Denver Metro Area.

Mile High Mountain Village

Mile High Mountain Village is a place that all fans with a game ticket can go to enjoy pre-game events and all the amenities of tailgating. There are even appearances from the Broncos cheerleader, former Broncos, and the Broncos Mascot Miles at Mile High Mountain Village. Check out Mile High Mountain Village if you’re looking for some fun pre-game activities.

Sports Legends Mall

At the Sports Legends Mall you’ll find plenty drinks and pre-game food. It differs from Mile High Mountain Village in that Sports Legends Mall is more geared towards families and kids. The mall offers lots of children's activities including outdoor inflatables, face painting, and much more. If you’re looking for a family friendly tailgate environment, then look no further than the Sports Legends Mall.

Broncos Stadium Guide

In Game

The Denver Broncos have some of the loudest and most diehard fans in all of the NFL which can be proven by the fact the Broncos have sold out every home game since 1970. When you enter Mile High, the first thing you’ll notice is a sea of orange and navy as all the fans come to the game decked out in Broncos gear. Once the game starts, you’ll hear the roar of the Broncos fans as they cheer on the team to victory.

The South End Zone is home to the most passionate fans at Empower Field at Mile High. This tradition dates back to the original Mile High Stadium where the visiting team’s locker room was located right in the South End Zone stands. The most raucous fans would sit in the South End Zone stands to strike fear into the opposing team before they even took the field.

Broncos fans are very passionate and loud when it comes to cheering on their Broncos, however, don’t be afraid to attend a Broncos game as a fan of a visiting team. The fans at Mile High are pretty well behaved and at worst you’ll receive some good-natured ribbing as long as you act respectfully. A visit to Mile High should be on the list of any die-hard NFL fan as you’ll struggle to find a better experience almost anywhere else.
