The two teams had several hard fought battles over the years including an 87-72 Terps win against #1 Duke in 2003. While the two won’t play regularly anymore, there is still a good chance to see them square off in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge, so be on alert for when these two teams meet next as you wouldn’t want to miss it.

Maryland is home to the first midnight madness college basketball celebration. The tradition dates back to 1971 when Terps coach Lefty Driesell invited fans to a 1.5-mile team run. Over the years, the tradition has grown and most Division I schools have created their own midnight madness, but it all started in College Park so don’t miss Maryland Madness.
The Maryland student section has a reputation for being one of the most raucous student sections in the nation. Maryland students aren’t afraid to show their emotions or use vulgar language, which helps them create one of the best home-court advantages in the country. If you want to sit with the rowdiest fans in the arena, then make sure to join the student section.
Like most college basketball teams, Maryland has a band that plays a variety of school songs. These songs do an excellent job of pumping up the players and also give the student section cues, so don’t be afraid to show some appreciation for the band when at the game.
The cheerleaders at Terps games are also a big part of the show. These men and women perform a variety of routines and bring everyone to their feet, so don’t miss them when attending a Terps game.
Hail to thee Maryland!
Steadfast in loyalty,
For thee we stand.
Love for the black and gold,
Deep in our hearts we hold.
Singing thy praise forever,
Throughout the land.
Maryland Victory Song
Maryland we’re all behind you,
Raise high the black and gold.
For there is nothing half so glorious,
As to see our team victorious.
We’ve got the steam boys,
We’ve got the team boys,
So keep on fighting, don’t give in!
M-A-R-Y-L-A-N-D (yell)
Maryland will win!
Fight Song
Fight, fight, fight for Maryland,
Honor now her name again,
Push up the score, keep on fighting for more,
For Maryland, GO TERPS! (yell)
And we will fight, fight, fight for terrapins,
Keep on fighting ’till we win.
So sing out our song as we go marching along,
To victory!
