Atmosphere
In Philadelphia, tailgating is as much a part of the gameday experience as the action on the field. The lots around Lincoln Financial Field open five hours before kickoff allowing for a full day of tailgating fun and excitement. While at times Philly fans can be a bit rough around the edges once you get to know people you’ll fit right in assuming, of course, you’re wearing green and white. It may be a bit of a different story if you show up in Giants or Cowboys gear.
There is plenty of drinking and carousing to take part in when tailgating in Philly. Popular tailgate games include washers, cornhole, and ladder ball. Things can get quite competitive out in the lots, so bring your A game if you’re looking to impress your new friends.
Lastly, when tailgating before an Eagles game come prepared to enjoy some local favorites including cheesesteaks, Italian sausage, and soft pretzels. You can prepare these dishes or buy them and bring them to the tailgate depending on your cooking expertise. If you’re looking to grab a good cheese steak before the game, you can’t go wrong with Pat or Gino’s, and you won’t find a better pretzel than those made by the Philadelphia Soft Pretzel Factory. Enjoying some Philly favorites will go a long way in ensuring you get the true Philly tailgating experience.
Traditions
The Eagle Mobile
One of the must see tailgates at any Philadelphia Eagles tailgate is The Eagle Mobile. This Winnebago has been tricked out in Eagles paraphernalia to show off just how much these fans love their Eagles. These guys love tailgating almost as much as the Eagles, so don’t be afraid to stop by and talk some Philly football.
South Philadelphia Sports Complex
One of the unique things about attending an Eagles game is that both Citizens Bank Park and Wells Fargo Arena are located right next door. The fact the stadiums are so close to each other in Philly means you may even be able to sneak in a Eagles game during the day and a Phillies or Flyers game at night.
