History

The San Diego State Aztecs men’s and women’s basketball teams play their home games at Viejas Arena. The 12,414 seat venue cost $29 million to build in 1997.

Viejas Arena sits on the site of the Aztec Bowl and opened to replace Peterson Gymnasium as the home of the Aztec basketball programs. The arena features a $1.2 million video scoreboard, seven locker rooms, a VIP Room, and a shared training facility.

Over the years, Viejas Arena has been the site of several notable events. The arena hosted first and second round games in 2001, 2006, and 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball tournament. The venue has also been the site of several WCW and TNA wrestling events, as well as concerts. Famous acts to perform at Viejas Arena include The Who, Metallica, and Lady Gaga among others.
