Rivalries & Top Games to Attend

Battle of California

Rival Team: Los Angeles Kings

The Sharks-Kings rivalry began when the Sharks entered the league in 1991. However, it wasn’t until 1995 when the Sharks 4-0 victory effectively eliminated the Kings from playoff contention that things started to heat up. Over the years there have been numerous hotly contested playoff contests between these two with one of the most notable occurring in 2014 when the Kings came back from three games down to defeat the Sharks. There is always a lot at stake when these two teams get together, so make sure to be in attendance.

Sharks vs Ducks

Rival Team: Anaheim Ducks

Similar to the Sharks rivalry with the Kings, their rivalry with the Anaheim Ducks also stems from the proximity of the two teams. The Sharks and Ducks have both played in the Pacific Division throughout their history, and in 2009 the two teams squared off in the playoffs for the first time. Make sure to book your tickets to SAP Center for Sharks-Ducks games if you want to see an intense matchup.

San Jose Sharks Stadium Guide

In Game

The Sharks have consistently put a competitive team on the ice since entering the league, which has helped them build up an impressive fan base in a non-traditional hockey market. The Sharks typically play to an almost full house, so you’ll find a lively atmosphere when attending a Sharks game at the SAP Center.

The fans you’ll find at the SAP Center are rather friendly and very happy to talk hockey with fans of other teams. However, Kings fans may want to be a bit more cautious in their approach than others. Don’t let the fact that these fans are from sunny California fool you; they know their stuff when it comes to hockey and is just as passionate as the fans you’ll encounter in other colder cities.

In addition to good fan support, you’ll also be greeted with a wide variety of concession options when attending a game at the SAP Center. You’ll be able to grab the simple classics like a hot dog and beer, but you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy local barbecue from Armadillo Willy’s or Panda Express as well.

A trip to San Jose to see a Sharks game is an enjoyable time for any hockey fan out there and is an excellent way to escape the harsh winters.

  2. Jaws Theme

Before every Sharks power play the Jaws theme is played in anticipation for the Sharks scoring. The Sharks can smell blood in the water when they go on the power play, so it's only fitting that the Jaws theme precedes it.
