You’ll find lots to see when attending a South Alabama basketball game as the Mitchell Center is not just home to the Jaguars basketball team, but several landmarks as well. Outside of the arena, you can stop by and get your picture taken with a giant Jaguar statue and once you step foot inside you’ll be treated to one of the oldest and most famous landmarks in Mobile. The Mitchell Center is home to the Waterman Globe, so stop by and check it out before taking your seat for a fun evening of USA basketball.

Once the game starts, you’ll experience an excellent college hoops game filled with lots of pageantry and tradition. South Alabama features just about anything you could want in a college basketball game experience including loyal fans, a fantastic spirit squad, and an incredible pep band, so sit back and enjoy the show during your trip to Mobile.

Before or after the game, take some time to explore the area near campus as well as downtown Mobile. Around campus, you’ll find a couple of places to eat like Heroes Sports Bar & Grill. However, if you venture downtown, there are more food and drink options as well as several local attractions including Hank Aaron Stadium and Bellingrath Gardens.

Things to check out

Waterman Globe

During your visit to the Mitchell Center make sure to check out the Waterman Globe. The globe was a major tourist attraction in downtown Mobile from 1948 to 1973 and today can be seen in the Mitchell Center’s north entrance.

Jaguar Statue

Outside the Mitchell Center’s north entrance is a large jaguar statue. The statue is a must-see for anyone visiting the arena and presents an excellent photo op, so stop by and snap a picture with it.

University of South Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

The University of South Alabama Sports Hall of Fame is a can’t miss for anyone attending a USA basketball game. The hall of fame honors all of the best athletes in school history and features tons of memorabilia from over the years, so take it all in before tipoff.
