Rivalries & Top Games to Attend

Titans vs Colts

Rival Team: Indianapolis Colts

The Titans and Colts have been divisional rivals since 2002. In the early days of the newly formed AFC South, the Titans and Colts were the two power teams trading off division titles from 2002 to 2010. There is always a lot at stake when these two rivals get together, so you won’t want to miss when the Colts are in town.

Titans vs Texans

Rival Team: Houston Texans

Not only are the Titans and Texans AFC South rivals, but the Titans also originated in Houston, as the Oilers, capturing the hearts and minds of Houstonians from 1960 to 1996. Many Texans fans still have bad taste in their mouths from the Oilers skipping town, so expect there to be a lot of passion both on the field and in the stands when these two AFC South rivals get together.

Titans vs Jaguars

Rival Team: Jacksonville Jaguars

The first matchup between the then Houston Oilers and Jaguars took place in 1995 when the Oilers took down the Jaguars 10-3. During the 1999 season, the rivalry between these two teams intensified with the Titans handing the Jaguars their only three losses of the season including a 33-14 loss in the AFC Championship game.

Titans vs Steelers

Rival Team: Pittsburgh Steelers

The rivalry between the Titans and Steelers stems from these two teams occupying the AFC Central together from 1970 to 2002. Once realignment came around in 2002 the Titans were moved to the AFC South, and the Steelers were put in the AFC North. However that hasn’t stopped this rivalry from being very heated as the two teams still meet on a regular basis, and there is still plenty of bad blood between the fans.

Titans Tailgate Guide

Atmosphere

Titan’s fans bring a unique Nashville style of Tailgating to the NFL. The parking lots surrounding Nissan Stadium are full of crazed Titans fans enjoying cold beverages and southern barbecue. Fire up the smokers and join in the fun since you can’t go wrong with some refreshing cold brews and delicious barbecue.

The barbecue at a Titans tailgate is truly something special. Not only is it among the finest barbecue you’ll find anywhere throughout the country, but the fans also have a special tradition of serving different types of meat depending on the opponent. For example, when the Bills are in town you’ll encounter a ton of buffalo meat while the rival Colts conjure up steaks and the Dolphins arrival causes fans to bring out the catfish. Regardless of who is in town the delicious barbecue found at a Titans game is top notch and not something you would want to miss out on.

Another Titans tailgating tradition is the playing of a game called Sholf. Sholf is a combination of golf and shuffleboard and is a lot of fun to play. Titans fans take sholf seriously and even have tournaments that last throughout the season. Forget about your traditional tailgate games like ladder ball and corn hole and get ready to play some sholf when tailgating before a Titans game.

Finally, make sure to arrive early when attending a Titans tailgate since the lots open up five hours before kickoff ensuring you’ll have plenty of time to knock back a few beers, fill up on some of the tastiest barbecues around, and play a few games of sholf.
