The USC Trojans basketball and volleyball teams moved into the Galen Center in 2006. The Galen Center replaced Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and cost $147 million to build. The arena seats 10,258 and is named after donor Louis Galen and his wife, Helene.
The Galen Center is home to the arena, team offices, and practice facilities of the USC Trojans men’s basketball team. The court inside the Galen Center is named after former Trojans basketball player Jim Sterkel.
The Galen Center has been home to many notable events since opening in 2006. The arena was the temporary home of the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards from 2011 to 2014. It also hosted a Lakers practice game on December 16, 2011, and is the annual home of Microsoft’s E3 press conference.
