History

The Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania is the home of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The $44 million arena opened in 1999, and it has a capacity of 8,300 for hockey.

In addition to Penguins games, the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza has hosted many other events over the years. The arena served as the home of the AF2’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers from 2002 to 2009. It also held an NBA preseason game between the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets on October 9, 2003. Outside of sports, the arena has hosted numerous concerts over the years featuring acts such as Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Elton John. Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump also have made appearances at the arena during their campaigns in 2004 and 2016.
